Vigilante Frank Castle Resumes His Deadly Crusade as the Punisher
Get ready, folks, 'cause Frank Castle – the infamous, hard-hitting Punisher – is back and better than ever! This time around, the gun-slinging antihero graces the comic book pages in the five-issue miniseries called Punisher: Red Band.
The duo behind this gritty, action-packed adventure is none other than creator Ben Percy (known for his stellar work on Wolverine) and Julius Ohta (Iron Man). If you remember, the last time Frank was on our radar was back in 2023 when he infiltrated and took over the Hand ninja cult, discovered his wife was alive and seeking a divorce, and encountered Weirdworld. Fast forward to now, and Frank finds himself back in the concrete jungle of New York, navigating life without any recollection of his chaotic past, but still kicking ass and taking names as only he can do.
Paralleling the violence-driven tone of the recent TV series, our Frank is up to his usual bloody antics. It's only right that this story arc comes with a "Red Band" label, signifying that it encompasses more explicit content than typical Marvel releases.
According to Percy, "I've had a mad crush on Frank Castle for ages, and I've been dying to pen a Punisher series for what feels like forever. This time around, I'm diving headfirst into this bloodbath and driving it to the very edge of my favorite genre – psychopathic lunatics. Buckle up, 'cause street-level slaughter awaits you!"
Frank's existence has been a bit up in the air for Marvel, and the source of that uncertainty can be attributed to his Netflix series' debut coinciding with numerous mass shootings, as well as law enforcement adopting his symbol to decorate their vehicles. The critically acclaimed Daredevil: Born Again series tackled the latter issue, with Frank wiping out a squad of Punisher cops and giving them a piece of his mind before they met their untimely demise.
