Vigilante Frank Castle, Known as The Punisher, Re-emerges, Prepared to Enact Violence Again
Get ready, folks! Our favorite hard-hitting antihero, Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, is storming back onto the comic book scene.
Marvel's lethal vigilante is making a comeback in Punisher: Red Band, a thrilling five-issue miniseries penned by Benjamin Percy (of Wolverine fame) and Julius Ohta (Iron Man enthusiast). Fans last saw Castle in 2023 when he seized control of the Hand ninja cult, discovered his wife was still alive and yearning for a divorce, and was whisked away to Weirdworld. This new comic finds Frank back in the heart of New York, void of memories of his past life, but still deathly handy with a gun – and let's be honest, that's all that matters to him. He's getting back to business, and bloodshed, just like his small-screen counterpart.
In a statement by Percy, "Frank Castle is one of my all-time favorite characters, and writing the Punisher series has long been a dream of mine. I plan to go all-in and explore the very depths of my favored genre: crazed psychopaths. This is going to be rough and raw, with street-level chaos aplenty. Brace yourself for the mayhem."
Ever since Marvel's uncertain stint with Frank, some of it attributed to the timing of his Netflix series following mass shootings and the misuse of his symbol by police, fans have been eagerly awaiting his return to the comics. Surprisingly, Daredevil: Born Again tackled this issue head-on during its first season by having Frank dispose of several Punisher cops with a strong message: they need to shape up.
