Vigilante Frank Castle, depicted as The Punisher, resumes his lethal crusade against crime.
Crashing Back into the Comics Scene: The Punisher Returns in a Blood-Soaked Story
Get ready to dust off your comic book shelves and grab some tissue, as Marvel's lethal anti-hero, The Punisher, is making a comeback! Punisher: Red Band, a gripping five-issue miniseries penned by none other than Ben Percy (Wolverine) and Julius Ohta (Iron Man) is hitting the stands.
Last seen in 2023, when ol' Frank Castle (that's him) took control of the Hand ninja cult, discovered his wife was alive and craving a divorce, and found himself shipwrecked in the fantastical realm of Weirdworld, this gritty superhero is back in New York City, but without a single recollection of his previous life. Don't worry, though, he still remembers how to take a life with frightening ease. Buckle up for a wild ride, as our amnesic antihero is on a ruthless quest for the truth!
Just like his small-screen counterpart, this Frank Castle is going to pour blood into New York's streets with abandon. The "Red Band" label on this comic indicates that it's going to push the envelope with its explicit content more so than usual.
"Frank Castle is one of my top favorite characters, and writing Punisher has been a dream of mine for a long, long time," shared Percy. "I'm about to give the genre of killer psychopaths an outright beating. Grit? Bloody street-level mayhem awaits you!"
Marvel's titan has occasionally been at a loss for how to handle Frank's character. Some of that could be attributed to the release timing of a heavily armed vigilante in the wake of mass shootings, while other times, it was because law enforcement had co-opted his symbol for their vehicles. In Daredevil: Born Again, the first season confronted this very issue by having Frank take out a whole bunch of Punisher police officers, who were terribly out of step.
Stay tuned to see what chaotic adventures Frank finds himself in when Punisher: Red Band launches on September 10.
