The Ballon d'Or and Johan Cruyff Trophy, two of the most prestigious individual football awards, have announced their nominees for the 2025 edition. The ceremony will take place at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France, on Monday, September 22, 2025, starting at 3 pm ET / 7 pm BST.

For the Women's Ballon d'Or, Sonia Bompastor, Arthur Elias, Justine Madugu, Renee Slegers, and Sarina Wiegman are the nominees. The winner will be decided by an international panel of 50 journalists. Last year, Aitana Bonmati took home the trophy.

In the Men's Ballon d'Or category, Alisson, Lucas Chevalier, Thibaut Courtois, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Emiliano Martinez, Jan Oblak, David Raya, Matz Selz, and Yann Sommer are the nominees. The panel of journalists from the top 100 football nations will decide the winner. Rodri won the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

The Johan Cruyff Trophy, awarded to the best coach, has nominees including Antonio Conte, Luis Enrique, Hansi Flick, Enzo Maresca, and Arne Slot for the Men's category, while Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Daphne van Domselaar are the nominees for the Women's category. The winners will be decided by a mix of journalists and ex-players.

The Yashin Trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper, will see Alisson, Lucas Chevalier, Thibaut Courtois, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Emiliano Martinez, Jan Oblak, David Raya, Matz Selz, and Yann Sommer competing for the Men's trophy, while Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Daphne van Domselaar will battle it out for the Women's trophy. The winners will be decided in the same way as the men's Ballon d'Or, by a panel of 100 journalists.

The Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best under-21 player, will have its winner decided by a jury of Ballon d'Or winners. The nominees have yet to be announced.

The ceremony will be hosted by Kate Scott and Ruud Gullit. Internationally, the ceremony can be streamed on L'Equipe YouTube, while in the United States, it will be streamed on Paramount+ and CBS Golazo Network. In the UK, the ceremony will be broadcast on TNT Sports and discovery.

The Ballon d'Or was first launched in 1956 by France Football. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have famously traded the Ballon d'Or trophy for over 10 years. However, a new generation of players is stepping forward to challenge their dominance.

The 2025 Ballon d'Or will be the 69th edition of the award. The red carpet event begins at 19:00, and the full show runs until around 23:00 CET. The ceremony can be streamed for free on L'Equipe's official YouTube channel.

In a world where new talents are emerging, the 2025 Ballon d'Or promises to be an exciting event, marking a new era in football.
