Vietnam's state-run petroleum company Petrovietnam initiates operation of O Mon IV power plant, shaping the nation's energy future.
The O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant, a significant component of the Block B-O Mon Gas-to-Power value chain, marked its beginning on August 19, 20XX. This landmark project is one of 250 national landmark projects commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
The power plant, being constructed via a joint venture between South Korea's Doosan Enerbility Co., Ltd and Vietnam's Power Engineering Consulting JSC 2 (PECC2), signifies a sustainable shift from offshore gas to onshore power. The O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant will employ combined cycle gas turbine technology with a designed capacity of 1,155 MW, promising clean, efficient, and reliable power to the grid.
The EPC contract for the O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant was signed by Petrovietnam with a consortium led by Doosan Enerbility and PECC2 on June 6. Doosan Enerbility, vice chairman at the consortium, has expressed commitment to ensuring the power plant is built to high standards.
Meanwhile, the progress of the Nhon Trach LNG-fired power plants (both 3 and 4) has been substantial. The Nhon Trach 3 LNG-fired power plant is expected to start commercial operations in Q3 of the current year. Upon completion in 2028, the O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant will raise Petrovietnam's managed power capacity to over 9,300 MW, ensuring a stable electricity supply for the Mekong Delta.
Petrovietnam Chairman Le Manh Hung stated that the successful implementation of the O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant is an important political task and a driving force for Petrovietnam's leadership and staff. Doosan Enerbility, in its commitment to Vietnam, aims to remain a trusted partner for clean energy projects, EPC contracts, and the country's nuclear power development strategy.
In a separate development, an agreement signed on May 26 involves energy companies from Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam to explore exports of renewable electricity. This initiative underscores Vietnam's ambition to transition towards a greener energy future.
The O Mon IV Thermal Power Plant, upon delivery, is poised to play a crucial role in Vietnam's energy landscape, driving sustainability and ensuring a reliable electricity supply for the nation.
