Vietnam’s PM directs swift recovery after Typhoon Kalmaegi devastates Gia Lai
Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính visited Gia Lai Province to assess the damage and coordinate recovery efforts following Typhoon Kalmaegi. He praised the local response and outlined key steps for rebuilding lives and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister began by acknowledging the VNĐ 60 billion (around US$2.3 million) already allocated for relief efforts. He directed this funding to be used effectively for repairs and rebuilding. He also requested a comprehensive assessment of total damages to create a targeted support plan.
During his meeting with local authorities, he instructed them to mobilise contingency funds to assist affected residents. For families who lost their homes entirely, he called for the immediate construction of new resettlement areas. He also urged the province to review and repair critical infrastructure in sectors such as transportation, healthcare, and education.
The Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Finance to provide additional funding to help Gia Lai Province overcome the storm's consequences. He commended the Vietnam Red Cross and local government bodies for their donation of funds for house reconstruction.
