Vietnam, Philippines Boost Maritime Cooperation with Joint Exercises
A high-level delegation from the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) recently concluded a five-day goodwill visit to the Philippines. The visit aimed to bolster maritime cooperation between the two nations, as part of a 2024 memorandum of understanding.
The VCG delegation joined the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) for the 2nd PCG-VCG Bilateral Meeting. Officials from both sides emphasized the importance of continued partnership for disaster response, maritime safety, and regional peace. The visit also saw both coast guards engaging in cultural exchanges and humanitarian activities.
A notable highlight was a joint maritime exercise conducted in Carcar Bay, Cebu. The VCG and PCG, along with the Philippine Coast Guard and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, simulated search and rescue, firefighting, and oil spill response operations. The meeting focused on collaborative efforts in joint maritime safety, search and rescue, and environmental protection initiatives.
The VCG's visit to the Philippines underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen maritime cooperation. The joint exercises and meetings have paved the way for further collaboration in ensuring maritime security, disaster response, and environmental protection in the region.
