Vietnam initiates nationwide charitable drive to aid Cuban citizens
In a heartwarming display of solidarity and friendship, Vietnam has launched a national donation campaign to support Cuba, aiming to provide medical supplies, essential goods, and sustainable humanitarian aid. The campaign, which marks the 65th anniversary of Vietnam-Cuba diplomatic ties, was initiated on August 13, 2025, and will run for 65 days, ending on October 16.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) Central Committee, along with various ministries, agencies, and mass organizations, is spearheading this initiative. The campaign invites participation from Vietnamese citizens at home and abroad, businesses, foreign residents in Vietnam, international organizations, and diplomatic missions.
The campaign has already surpassed expectations, raising over 249.9 billion VND (over 9.5 million USD) within the first three days, more than doubling the original goal of 65 billion VND (approximately 2.5 million USD). As of August 23, total donations have reached over 3.6 trillion VND (over 14 million USD), reflecting the massive support from more than 1.8 million individual and institutional contributors.
Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed his gratitude for Vietnam's assistance and support, affirming that the Vietnam-Cuba friendship is a unique and just relationship, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban leader Fidel Castro, and nurtured by generations of leaders and citizens from both countries.
The campaign is part of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year and is designed to highlight the long-standing solidarity between the two nations. Schools nationwide will participate in the campaign through letter-writing campaigns and small fundraising projects for Cuban children.
Donations can be made through various channels, including direct contributions, QR code transfers, public donation boxes, mobile apps, and bank transfers. The VRCS is coordinating closely with the Cuban Embassy, the Cuban Red Cross, and international Red Cross organizations to ensure transparent and timely disbursement of the funds and aid.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Do Van Chien, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, said the programme reflects Vietnam's consistent affection for Cuba and its people. He emphasized that Vietnam always stands shoulder to shoulder with Cuba, calling on domestic sectors, VFF member organizations, businesses, Vietnamese at home and abroad, and foreigners in Vietnam to contribute through practical actions.
