Crisis in the Middle East: Vietnam Steps Up Safety Measures for Citizens in Israel and Iran
Vietnam Increases National Safety Measures in Response to Israel-Iran Tensions
HO CHI MINH CITY — In response to the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of Vietnam has joined forces with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defense, and our Vietnamese diplomatic agencies across the region to closely monitor the situation, ensure the safety of citizens and diplomatic headquarters, and devise plans for potential evacuations from conflict zones.
The conflict between Israel and Iran erupted on June 13, and events have unfolded unpredictably, posing grave risks to civilian safety, including those in the Vietnamese communities in both countries. On the same day, the ministry issued its highest-level travel warning, strongly discouraging Vietnamese citizens from traveling to Israel or Iran and advising those already in these countries to promptly reconsider their travel arrangements.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Buì Thanh Sơn has extended his sympathies and instructions to ambassadors, embassy staff, and Vietnamese citizens currently residing and working in Israel and Iran.
As of June 13, Vietnam was home to 37 Vietnamese citizens and four people of Vietnamese origin in Iran, while Israel hosted over 700 Vietnamese citizens and people of Vietnamese descent, including staff and family members of Vietnamese representative agencies.
By June 16, the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran, in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia, successfully facilitated the departure of 18 Vietnamese nationals from Iran to Azerbaijan. By June 18, 16 of them had returned safely to Vietnam. The Embassy in Iran continues to operate with the safety of its staff members secured and maintains regular contact with the 11 remaining citizens, the majority of whom are long-term residents.
In the meantime, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has launched registration for repatriation and is actively preparing detailed evacuation plans. It will coordinate with Vietnamese missions in neighboring countries and domestic authorities for immediate implementation if necessary.
