In the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the 46th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA-46) witnessed a significant moment as the leaders of Vietnam and Indonesia reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering their bilateral ties.

Chairman Phan Văn Mãi of the Vietnamese National Assembly's Committee for Economic and Financial Affairs met with Mardani Ali Sera, head of the Indonesian delegation and Chair of the House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body. The meeting highlighted the long-standing friendship, shared interests, and similar viewpoints between the two nations, both members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Both sides reiterated their commitment to enhancing ASEAN's unity and centrality. Recognising the importance of people-to-people exchanges, they emphasised the need to strengthen the participation of women and youth in inter-parliamentary activities.

An action programme is being formulated to leverage the Vietnam-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with parliamentary cooperation as a key component. Delegation exchanges and experience sharing in law-making are frequent between the two countries, and they aim to further promote these exchanges and high-level contacts.

The growing ties between the legislatures of Vietnam and Indonesia have become more substantive and effective. Both parties pledged to support each other at regional and international forums, including inter-parliamentary platforms. They also agreed to coordinate oversight of bilateral agreements and facilitate comprehensive cooperation at both national and local levels.

Moreover, a legal framework is being created to foster cooperation in emerging fields such as green and circular economy, digital transformation, energy transition, semiconductor industry, electric vehicle development, and battery ecosystems. The aim is to effectively implement agreements reached by their leaders.

Mardani Ali Sera congratulated Vietnam on its achievements and called for swift implementation of the cooperation agreement between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Indonesian House of Representatives. He noted that bilateral relations have made significant strides, particularly with the upgrade to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March this year.

As the two nations move forward, their commitment to deepening business and community linkages will undoubtedly further strengthen the Vietnam-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, ensuring a prosperous future for both nations.
