Celebrating Historical Solidarity: Algeria and Vietnam Walk Hand in Hand

HCM CITY - In the heart of HCM City, Đỗ Văn Chiến, a prominent figure in Việt Nam's political scene, greeted a delegation from Algeria's National Liberation Front (FLN). The occasion? The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification – a significant milestone not just for the Vietnamese people but also for peace-loving individuals worldwide, including those from Algeria.

Chiến, a Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and President of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee, welcomed the high-level FLN delegation, led by Politburo member Bensalem Mohamed. He expressed his gratitude for Algeria's unwavering support in Việt Nam's struggle for national unity and defense.

Reminiscing about their shared history, Chiến highlighted the solidarity and mutual support between the two Parties and nations in their respective battles for national liberation. For both, the aspiration of independence, prosperity, and happiness is a bond that must be preserved, strengthened, and passed down to the future generations.

Mohamed expressed the FLN General Secretary's greetings to Party General Secretary Tô Lâm. He applauded the victory of the Vietnamese people in their noble struggle for national independence, which has always been a beacon of hope for Algerian leaders and people.

Mohamed also emphasized the FLN's enduring gratitude for the support extended by the Communist Party and the people of Việt Nam during Algeria's struggle for independence.

The two sides agreed to bolster their traditional relations, aiming for increased political trust, mutual understanding, and the preservation of the rich legacy of their partnership. They plan to share experiences in Party building, leadership, national management, personnel training, and theoretical development, and to soon complete negotiations for a cooperation agreement between the two Parties.

Government and National Assembly agencies were also tasked to work together to strengthen and expand bilateral collaboration, especially in the sectors of economy, trade, energy, and culture – a move that promises to fulfill the aspirations of both nations' leaders and people.

Revisiting History: A Shared Path to Independence

Việt Nam and Algeria share a history deeply rooted in their mutual struggle for independence from colonial powers. Vietnamese sovereignty has been a long-standing endeavor against various foreign powers, like the Chinese and the French, culminating in the reunification of North and South Vietnam in 1975. Algeria's independence struggle, on the other hand, focused on casting off French colonial rule, a battle that lasted from 1954 to 1962.
