Vietnam aims to successfully implement a comprehensive strategic partnership with Malaysia: Statement by National Assembly Chairman

Vietnam's National Assembly Chairman Visits Malaysia, Reinforcing Bilateral Ties

In a significant development, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man of Vietnam paid an official visit to Malaysia on September 19, 2023. The visit was marked by a warm welcome from Dato Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah, the President of the Malaysian Senate.

During their talks, both leaders acknowledged the effective implementation of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. They pledged to deepen legislative cooperation, boost political trust, and expand economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Chairman Man briefed Ali Basah on Vietnam's achievements in constitutional amendments, law-making, administrative streamlining, merging of provincial-level administrative units, and the operation of a two-tier local administration model. In response, Ali Basah expressed gratitude for Vietnam's support during Malaysia's AIPA-46 Chairmanship and its role as ASEAN Chair 2025.

The two sides agreed to address legal bottlenecks, develop the Halal industry, coordinate to tackle IUU fishing, and enhance people-to-people links. They also agreed to work with ASEAN countries to build a united, inclusive, and resilient ASEAN, upholding the bloc's central role, particularly on the East Sea issue, and contributing to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

In a show of solidarity, Ali Basah hosted a banquet in honor of the NA Chairman, his spouse, and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on the same day. The visit concluded with Chairman Man inviting the President of the Malaysian Senate to visit Vietnam, and Ali Basah gladly accepting the invitation.

The two senior politicians have plans to visit each other's countries in the upcoming months to further deepen relations and support the priorities of ASEAN-2025. While the exact itinerary is yet to be announced, it is expected that Vietnamese and Malaysian leaders will engage to reinforce ties under ASEAN frameworks, beyond the visits to Vietnam and Malaysia. The events will involve official visits and cooperation discussions to support ASEAN's 2025 agenda.

The visit by Chairman Tran Thanh Man is a testament to the strong bilateral relations between Vietnam and Malaysia, and a promising step towards a more prosperous future for both nations.
