Viersen Joins AGFS NRW for Mobility Innovations

Viersen is making strides in urban mobility, having collaborated with innovative wegebau GmbH to develop innovative water-bound pedestrian and cycle path surfaces. The city's efforts have been recognised, as it was approved to join the AGFS NRW, offering access to technical infrastructure, networks, and funding opportunities. The official announcement is expected from NRW Minister Oliver Krischer.

Viersen's journey began in August 2023 when it submitted an application to join the AGFS NRW. The city's application process reached a significant milestone in September 2024 with a main inspection. The inspection involved a seven-kilometer bike tour and a walking tour through Old Viersen, showcasing the city's innovative solutions.

The inspection commission praised Viersen's innovative approaches, strategic thinking, and employee training. The city presented cross-departmental and cross-divisional measures and plans for bicycle and pedestrian friendliness, demonstrating its commitment to a mobility-friendly infrastructure. Viersen hopes to gain insights and suggestions for planning and implementing such infrastructure by joining the AGFS.

Viersen's innovative water-bound pedestrian and cycle path surfaces, developed in collaboration with innovative wegebau GmbH, have earned the city a place in the AGFS NRW. The official announcement is imminent, and Viersen looks forward to the opportunities this membership will bring for planning and implementing a mobility-friendly infrastructure.
