Vienna Pride: Comprehensive Guide to Pride Month Celebrations
In June 1969, the Stonewall Riots in New York City marked the beginning of the modern global LGBTQ+ rights movement [1][2][3][4]. Iconic activists like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera were part of these events, though the exact details of the first acts of resistance remain uncertain [1][2].
Fast forward to 2025, and Vienna, Austria, will host the 29th Rainbow Parade as part of Pride Vienna 2025. This annual event, known as Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Vienna, is inspired by the Stonewall events and aims to affirm LGBTQ+ rights and visibility in the region.
The Rainbow Parade will commence at Rathausplatz on the 14th of June 2025 at 12pm, winding its way along the Ringstraße towards the parliament, opera, Urania, and back to Rathausplatz, where it will conclude at 10 pm [5]. Along the route, numerous events, including panel discussions, workshops, museum tours, readings, and parties, will take place from May 31st to June 15th [6].
Athletes can join the Pride Run, a 5km running event for equality, respect, and visibility of the LGBTQI+ community, on the 13th of June 2025. The route follows the Ringstraße, starting and ending at Rathausplatz. Registration for the Pride Run is open until the 5th of June 2025, and running numbers can be picked up on the 12th of June 2025 from 4-7pm in WeMove Running Store in Wien Mitte The Mall [7].
Vienna, Graz, and Innsbruck are home to queer clubs and bars for celebrations, such as "Why Not," Felixx, Marea Alta, Cafe Silber, Postgaragen Cafe, Vintage, Bacchus, and Dom Cafe [8].
During Pride Vienna 2025, various events will take place, including the Pride Brunch, Pride DJ Cocktail, Pride Beach Day, Pride Pool Day, Drag Show Miss*ter Vienna Pride, and guided tours "Que(e)r through the Literature Museum" [9]. For a complete list of events, consult the event calendar.
Thousands of people are expected to walk along the "Ring" in Vienna for the Rainbow Parade, continuing the tradition of celebrating LGBTQI+ rights and visibility in the city. As the parade concludes, the city will continue to shine bright with rainbow flags and same-sex and mixed couples in traffic lights, symbolizing unity and acceptance for the LGBTQI+ community.
For those who may be struggling with their sexual orientation or identity, counselling centres for LGBTQI+ people are available to help and give advice.
