Vienna hikes public fees—dog taxes, betting terminals hit hardest

Vienna has announced a wide-ranging increase in public fees to strengthen its budget. The changes will affect everything from dog taxes to betonline terminals, with some costs nearly doubling. Around 300 separate charges are set to rise under the new rules.

The city will now link many fees to inflation, replacing older fixed-rate charges. This shift means regular adjustments for costs like administrative fees, permits, and public services. One of the sharpest rises hits sports betting terminals, where the monthly fee jumps 50% to €525.

The changes form part of Vienna’s broader effort to balance its finances. Higher fees for betonline, permits, and pet ownership will take effect soon, while inflation-linked adjustments ensure future rises. Exemptions remain for certain groups, but most residents and businesses will face increased costs.
