Vienna Airport CEO Calls for Government Support to Boost Austria's Aviation Sector
Julian Jäger, CEO of Vienna Airport and President of Aviation Industry Austria, has called for government support and regulatory relief to boost Austria's aviation sector. He made these demands at the Aviation Symposium in Vienna, highlighting the industry's innovative strength and potential for sustainable growth.
Jäger praised Austria's aviation industry, noting that companies like FACC, Frequentis, and Schiebel supply global manufacturers with advanced solutions. He also acknowledged the high service standards of Austrian airports and the effective partnership between Vienna Airport, Austro Control, and Austrian Airlines.
Looking ahead, Vienna Airport expects around 32 million passengers in the full year 2025, which could be the highest figure in its 70-year history. This strong demand is attributed to the globalized world's reliance on aviation. However, Jäger warned about significant challenges facing the sector, including geopolitical crises, EU regulations, and the transition to sustainable aviation fuels.
To tackle these issues, Jäger demanded the abolition or reduction of the aviation tax to improve Austria's competitiveness. He also requested realistic SAF quotas and faster investment approval processes. Moreover, he called for targeted support for research and development in sustainable fuels and innovative technologies.
Vienna Airport aims to secure Austria's place in the global aviation competition through sustainable growth, innovation, and service quality. Julian Jäger's demands for government support and regulatory relief reflect the industry's determination to overcome challenges and continue its success story.
