Video footage captured by a drone reveals the formation of a tornado in southern Wisconsin.

Sauk City, Wisconsin, was hit by a tornado on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, as a result of severe thunderstorms sweeping across the Great Lakes region. The National Weather Service (NWS) had issued a Tornado Watch for much of southern Wisconsin and a Tornado Warning for specific areas, including Sauk City, during the late morning and early afternoon hours, signifying confirmed tornadic activity detected on radar and by spotters.

Accompanying the tornado, the severe weather event included damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and flash flooding. Some parts of northwestern Wisconsin experienced between 5 and 7 inches of rain, causing flooded roads. The tornado, captured on drone video, was seen ripping through homes in Sauk City, causing mostly tree damage and minor damage to homes in the area.

The storms, moving northeast at around 30 mph, affected nearby communities such as Prairie du Sac, Mazomanie, and Marxville. The NWS reported that at least five tornadoes were reported across the Midwest that day, with threats of flash flooding and extreme heat also present.

The NWS has since warned of the possibility of more tornadoes, strong damaging winds, and rainfall as the storms continue to pass. They are monitoring the potential for further severe weather and have advised residents to stay informed and prepared.
