In recent days, a viral video has been circulating on social media, showing a man climbing a pole and replacing a green flag with a saffron one. However, it's important to clarify that this incident did not occur in Nepal, but in Maddur, Mandya, Karnataka, India.

The video, which was recorded on 8th September 2025, shows the aftermath of a protest by Hindutva activists in Maddur. The protesters marched from the Narsingh Swami Temple to a mosque, where they forcibly replaced an Islamic flag with a saffron one.

The incident followed a stone-pelting during a Ganesh idol immersion on 7th September 2025, which resulted in eight people being injured. Authorities responded by imposing Section 144 and deploying over 1,500 police personnel to keep the bandh on 9th September 2025 peaceful.

Despite the viral video being widely shared, there has been no independent verification to link it directly to the protests in Maddur or provide any new, self-contained standalone facts. Reverse image search of keyframes from the video led to various social media posts showing the same incident from different angles.

It's also worth noting that the claim made in some posts that the video shows Hindus in Nepal replacing Islamic flags with saffron flags is false. The scene with the man removing a green flag sign and raising a yellow flag sign was actually captured at the artist association "Künstlerverein Malkasten" in Düsseldorf, Germany, during the inauguration of a new flag installation called "chord" on August 19, 2025.

A district-level peace meeting was held with officials and community leaders in an effort to restore harmony in Maddur. An FIR was also filed against BJP MLC C.T. Ravi for alleged provocative speech contributing to tensions in the area.

As the investigation into the Maddur incident continues, it's crucial to remain vigilant and verify information before sharing it. Misinformation can spread quickly, causing unnecessary fear and tension. Let's strive to promote understanding and peace in our communities.
