Heavy Monsoon Rains Cause Bulldozer Accident and Widespread Damage in Himachal Pradesh

In early August 2025, a tragic incident occurred on National Highway 5 in Jabli, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. A bulldozer, which was being used for road construction, lost control and plunged approximately 300 metres into a deep gorge during heavy monsoon rains. The driver of the bulldozer was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries.

The accident was captured in viral videos by onlookers, with the terrifying footage spreading rapidly on social media platforms. The bulldozer was clearing a landslide-hit road that had been blocked due to relentless rainfall.

The incident is just one of many that have occurred in Himachal Pradesh during the monsoon season. According to reports, the state has witnessed 51 flash floods, 28 cloudbursts, and 45 major landslides. As a result, 411 power distribution transformers and 196 water supply schemes have been affected across the state. Over 1,600 houses have been fully or partially damaged, and 101 people have died in rain-related incidents, while 36 people are still missing.

The flood-like situation has caused heavy damage to industrial areas, residential areas, and government offices in Himachal Pradesh. Out of the closed roads, 174 are in the Mandi district, 111 in Chamba, and 67 in Kullu. The Himachal Pradesh government has reported that 404 roads, including the Khab-Gramphu national highway, have been closed due to heavy rainfall.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has stated that the state government is on full alert and is constantly monitoring the situation. He has urged people to stay indoors and avoid travelling unless necessary. The government has also deployed emergency response teams to help those affected by the floods and landslides.

Evidence of the damage caused by the heavy rains can be seen in the videos circulating on social media, as well as in media reports. The videos show roads washed away, houses and buildings collapsing, and people being rescued from the debris. The images are a stark reminder of the power of nature and the importance of being prepared for emergencies.
