Victory proclaimed by Mayor Dieter Reiter: "Triumphant moment for our urban center"
Munich, Germany, took a significant step forward in promoting youth culture and urban sports development with the grand opening of the Casa (Center for Applied Skateboard Arts) on July 2, 2025. The event, held in the heart of the city, marked the official launch of this unique indoor street park and action sports hall, which is the first of its kind in Germany.
Mayor Dieter Reiter, Sports Referent Florian Kraus, and Building Referent Dr.-Ing. Jeanne-Marie Ehbauer were among the dignitaries present at the inauguration, held in the renovated historic building that was previously the Eggen factory. Now transformed into a 1,000-square-meter urban sports venue, the Casa boasts a robust, functional design tailored closely to the needs of the skateboarding and action sports community.
The Casa offers a weather-independent, professionally equipped training area for multiple disciplines, including skateboarding, BMX, scooter, inline skating, roller skating, and accessibility for wheelchair users. It supports both open sessions and structured courses, fostering inclusivity and the development of skills. The facility has already hosted major events, such as the Official Regional Championship South (Offizielle RM Süd) in street skateboarding, a qualifier for the German National Championship, demonstrating its role as a premier venue for competitive and community skateboarding in the region.
The opening event featured dynamic hip-hop beats and breakdance performances, reflecting the vibrant energy and urban lifestyle that the Casa embodies. The facility incorporates climate-conscious architecture, earning the "KlimaKulturKompetenz" award for energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and accessibility. The construction cost was approximately twelve million euros, underscoring significant municipal investment in this groundbreaking project.
For the city's young residents, the Casa represents a fantastic gain. It serves as a landmark urban sports hub with a dual focus on fostering local talent, supporting inclusivity, and providing a year-round professional environment for action sports. The Casa stands as a testament to Munich's commitment to cultural innovation, climate-conscious urban development, and youth engagement.
