Sailing Stars Max Hümme and Jette von Bock Shine at Teeny Trophy

Last Ascension weekend, the youthful chaos of Teeny Class sailors, aged 8 to 15, engulfed the Segler-Vereinigung Malente-Gremsmühlen grounds. Their boat of choice, a 3.15-meter wonder with a foresail, mainsail, spinnaker, and trapeze, ascended the Kellersee waters for over two decades in the exhilarating Teeny Trophy races. Representing Malente, five teams joined the 33-boat fleet.

A two-day intensive training session ensued, where expert trainers fine-tuned techniques and tactics for these young sailors. The time had come to put all their hard work into practice on the weekend's races.

With Günter Heppes presiding, the first of six races began on Friday afternoon under challenging wind conditions. Sturdy sailing skills reigned as the anticipated favorites began to dominate. The outstanding Malente team of Moritz Jung and Mia Schulz secured an impressive fifth place, while Max Hümme and Jette von Bock followed suit, ending in the very good seventh position.

Saturday arrived, delivering ideal conditions for the sailors—light winds and abundant sunshine. High spirits prevailed as three races were planned for the day. The second race saw a victory for Frederike Eichmann and Nina Charlotte Mehl from Berlin. Malente's Max Hümme and Jette von Bock placed second, resulting in an impressive intermediate outcome. The third race was dominated by Lake Dümmer's Lina Victoria Titgemeyer and Theo Blesken, but Max and Jette's consistent third-place finishes remained a key factor. The fourth race concluded with Jana Clemens and Mia Hensen of the Emsland region taking the win. After four grueling races, the overall standings were a tantalizing close prediction of thrilling Sunday action.

Refreshed and determined, Max and Jette kicked off the final day with a victory in the fifth race. The Dümmer favorites stumbled with 11th and 12th places, setting the stage for an overall triumph. However, the duo knew they had to navigate the final miles with care. Their cautious decision-making led to a good third place in the final race, securing a solid 5-point lead in the overall results.

Breaking a lengthy tradition, Max Hümme and Jette von Bock etched their names in Malente history as the first winning team of the Teeny Trophy! Their achievement was a testament to their dedication, resilience, and skill.

On the winner’s podium, Max Hümme and Jette von Bock (SVMG), Jan Alexander Heyers and Martha Holst (SVH), and Lina Victoria Titgemeyer and Theo Blesken (SCD) were the proud recipients of their well-earned trophies. Meanwhile, Moritz Jung and Mia Schulz settled for 12th place, Felix Pistor and Felix Reinhard ended at 19th, Carl Südel and Bendig Jäger finished 27th, and Ida Bauch and Henry Harbeck were the admirable 33rd finishers.

While limited information is available on the overall history of the Teeny Trophy, Max and Jette's winning performance won't soon be forgotten. Their journey and triumph exemplify the potential of young sailing talent and their unwavering passion for the sport.
