Victory in the VII Republican Parasport Spartiate: Success achieved by Astana
In a groundbreaking move, the seventh edition of the Republican Spartakiada among parasports athletes was held in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, marking the first time athletes with intellectual disabilities participated in this prestigious event.
Over the course of a month, approximately 2,000 athletes from 20 regions and cities of Kazakhstan took part in the multi-sport extravaganza, which has traditionally been a platform promoting mass physical culture and sports participation.
The Astana team, consisting of 189 athletes, secured the first place in the overall team standings with a commendable 463 points. Notable members of the Astana team included Akmaral Naubatbek and Yergaly Shamey in para-judo, Seydva Aliyeva in para-shooting, Aisulu Suleimenova in para-athletics, Siyazbek Daliyev and Ali Turganbek in para-swimming, and many more.
The competitions showcased the skills of athletes with intellectual disabilities in swimming, para-athletics, and table tennis, among others. In Astana, events were held in seven disciplines: sitting volleyball, para-taekwondo, para-judo, bocha, para-dances, para-archery, and para-karate.
Athletes from various regions of Kazakhstan competed in 17 different sports, with the event serving as a significant step towards comprehensive inclusion in parasports. This inclusive approach recognizes the abilities and rights of athletes with intellectual disabilities to compete at major sporting events alongside other athletes with disabilities.
