Victory in Cologne goes to the polar bears, securing a 7-3 score in the game.
In a thrilling game at the Cologne Arena, the Berlin Polar Bears secured their second win of the season in the German Ice Hockey League, defeating the Cologne Sharks 7:3.
The first period saw both teams playing evenly, but neither could convert their chances, as the score remained 0:0. The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute when Valtteri Kemiläinen scored for Cologne, giving the Sharks a 1:0 lead. But the Polar Bears responded quickly, with Frederik Storm scoring just 30 seconds later to level the score.
Nate Schnarr then scored for Cologne in double power play in the 26th minute, restoring their lead. However, the Polar Bears were not to be outdone. Adam Smith scored for Berlin at the 27th minute, followed by Jonas Müller's goal at the 29th minute, and Marcel Noebels' goal within the first 54 seconds of the final period.
The Polar Bears continued their onslaught, with Ty Ronning scoring two goals at the 31st and 59th minutes, and Andreas Eder netting the final goal at the 44th minute. The score at the end of the final period was 7:3 in favour of the Berlin Polar Bears.
It was a remarkable comeback for the Polar Bears, who had been trailing 0:3. The win also saw them score four unanswered goals in total during the final period.
Coach of the Berlin Polar Bears, Serge Aubin, who led the team to win the last German Ice Hockey Championship season, will be pleased with this victory. The game was played in front of 17,678 spectators.
The win moves the Berlin Polar Bears up the table, as they look to challenge for the title once again this season. The Cologne Sharks, on the other hand, will be left to ponder what might have been, after letting a 3:1 lead slip away in the final period.
