A Historic Moment for Yakutia: Nikolai Struchkov Triumphs in Il Darhan Cup

In an electrifying finale,World Champion Nikolai Struchkov, hailing from Yakutia, clinched the Il Darhan Cup in draughts, marking a historical milestone for the region as per Yakutia 24. This prestigious competition attracted over 200 draughts players from eight countries and seven regional teams of Russia, including titled grandmasters.

The Il Darhan Cup witnessed intense competition, with participants divided into age categories and leagues. Previous winners included Sergei Belosheev from Crimea and Oleg Dashkov from the Samara region. This year, however, Struchkov outshone all, securing the champion's title, a silver crown, diamond medal, and a certificate worth 300,000 rubles.

Ironically, the executive director of the Yakutia Draughts Federation, Struchkov showed an unyielding commitment to the tournament, despite the added pressure of organizing the event. His dedication to the games against formidable opponents was commendable, especially considering this was his third participation. His perseverance finally paid off, bagging him the top spot.

Standing second was Gavril Kolesov from Yakutia, while Alexander Georgiev from Bashkortostan took the third position. The top 8 contenders also included Nikolai Gulyaev, Aisen Egorov, and Prokopy Govarov (all from Yakutia), Sergei Belosheev from Crimea, and Allan Silva from Brazil.

Struchkov shared his triumphant feelings, acknowledging the challenges presented by playing at home and juggling organizational issues. However, he expressed his happiness at clinching the victory.

In the highest league for women, Sanadaara Aprosimova clinched gold, with Zhanna Sarshaeva from Leningrad Oblast taking silver and Daiiana Kondratyeva securing the bronze. Matches were also played in other age categories and leagues.
