Victims of Vancouver's fatal car-ramming incident, hailing from Taiwan, remain in critical condition, unconscious.

A tragic incident has left a Taiwanese woman named Sora in critical condition. This incident, described as the darkest day in Vancouver's history, took place during a Filipino community gathering following a Lapu Lapu Day festival. The gathering had attracted approximately 10,000 attendees. Sora, a visitor in Canada on a working holiday visa, was among the 30-plus people injured.

Sora was hit by a black Audi SUV, causing head trauma, multiple fractures, and contusions. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she remains unconscious as of May 1, 2025. Her immediate family is facing challenges, as her mother is currently unable to travel abroad to handle the necessary paperwork. To address this issue, Taiwan's foreign ministry is helping other relatives take on this responsibility.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Kai-ji Adam Lo, a man in his 30s, was charged with eight counts of second-degree murder. Unfortunately, the victims' ages ranged from 5 to 65, with 11 lives lost in this tragic event.

Taiwan's representative office in Vancouver and a local Taiwanese hometown association are providing assistance to Sora and her family during this difficult time. At a press conference, Steve Rai, interim chief of the Vancouver Police Department, expressed his condolences and called the incident a shattering blow to the collective sense of safety in the city.
