VfL Bochum secures an unconventional appointment for their new coach, forgoing traditional salary arrangements.
Let's Talk About Peter Zeidler's Step Back into Swiss Football
Peter Zeidler's stint at VfL Bochum, German Bundesliga side, was far from impressive. After a string of poor performances, he was shown the door in October 2024. But now, he's set to make a comeback in the Swiss Super League.
According to Swiss daily "Blick", Zeidler could take over the head coach position at FC Lausanne-Sport, replacing Ludovic Magnin who has moved to FC Basel. If this happens, VfL Bochum can finally cut ties with the coach who was still under contract until 2026, despite the relegation.
Swabian Roots and Early Coaching Steps
Zeidler, a native of Swabia, started his coaching career in the mid-80s. He kicked off as a youth coach at VfB Stuttgart in 1984. His first head coaching gig was with VfR Aalen, and his first taste of the Bundesliga came as a co-trainer for TSG Hoffenheim.
Football Adventures Abroad
Since 2011, Zeidler has been on a global coaching tour, stopping in France (FC Tours, FC Sochaux), Austria (FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg), and finally Switzerland. His first Swiss engagement was with FC Sion in 2016/17, followed by a successful run with FC St. Gallen from 2018.
Under his leadership, St. Gallen became Swiss Vice-Champion and reached the cup final twice. Despite finishing the 2023/24 season in fifth place, this wasn't enough to save him from the chop at VfL Bochum.
At the same time, sports director Marc Lettau was also sent packing. His contract was terminated in December.
