VfL Bochum announces David Siebers as their latest coach appointment
In a significant shake-up for VfL Bochum, the club has announced that David Siebers will take over as interim head coach, effective immediately. The news comes after the departure of Dieter Hecking and sporting director Dirk Dufner, following the team's poor performance.
Siebers, a 38-year-old coach, has been promoted from his role as U19 coach. He will be on the sidelines from September 20th, when VfL Bochum faces off against Nuremberg. His tenure as interim coach will last for three weeks, during which a decision will be made on whether he will continue in the role or return to the U19 team.
Ilja Kaenzig, the managing director of VfL Bochum, has been actively involved in the club's leadership and public relations during challenging periods, including the recent crisis and coaching changes. He will be present at press conferences alongside Siebers.
Kaenzig has stated that there should be quieter times regarding the coaching position after the three-week period, implying that a decision on a permanent successor for Hecking will be made after the international break in November. However, no decision has been made yet about a permanent head coach at that time.
Siebers' first game as head coach will be a crucial one, as VfL Bochum looks to turn their fortunes around and climb up the Bundesliga table. Fans will be eagerly anticipating his debut, hoping for a fresh start and a return to form for the struggling team.
