Veterans Day's initial observance

Hey there!

Brace yourselves, Berliners! The first-ever national Veterans Day is upon us, and it's gonna bring some major changes. Particularly the government district will take a hit.

So, if you're cruising around Berlin on Sunday, be prepared for some restrictions between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. The boys in blue recommend steering clear of the government district.

Traffic's gonna be rubbish near the Bundestag, and the Platz des 18. März in front of the Brandenburg Gate isn't going to be any picnic either. The Spree between the Jakob-Mierscheid-Steg and the Marschallbrücke will also be out of bounds for vehicles.

Central Bash in front of the Reichstag

On June 15, our brave Bundeswehr veterans will have their day in the sun at the national Veterans Day. The main shindig will go down in front of the Reichstag.

A Bundeswehr vet is anyone who's served as an active soldier or kicked butt to leave the service[1]. Word on the street is that some counter-protests have been planned in Berlin.

Some peace nuts are gearing up to scream and shake their fists, aiming to put a dent in the whole military love-in and vent their differing views on military culture in Germany[2].

Be aware that while we know the protesters will be there, the specifics on scale, locations, or exact chants are murky[2]. Still, it's always best to keep an eye on things, eh? Happy days, Berlin!

This Sunday, expect political discussions and general news surrounding the national Veterans Day in Berlin, particularly focusing on the event in front of the Reichstag. Although the specifics of any counter-protests are uncertain, it's essential to remain vigilant, as some peace activists have expressed their intention to voice their disagreement with military culture in Germany.
