Veteran TV personality, Iris Berben, reaches 75 years of age.
Iris Berben: A Renowned Actress and Social Activist
Turning 75, Iris Berben is a celebrated German actress known for her roles in comedies like "The Nickname" and the international film "Triangle of Sadness." However, Berben's influence extends far beyond the silver screen.
Berben has been politically active, serving as president of the German Film Academy for almost a decade. Her commitment to societal issues is evident, particularly in her advocacy against anti-Semitism and her solidarity with Israel and Jewish communities.
Berben's engagement in these matters is rooted in personal experiences. She traveled to Israel after the Six-Day War in 1967 and fell in love with the country and its people. This connection has remained strong, and she continues to stand against anti-Semitism and support victims.
Berben's efforts have been recognised with the Leo Baeck Prize from the Central Council of Jews. She has also been involved in projects and public narratives that confront Germany’s past, including dark chapters related to Jewish suffering.
Berben is also known for her roles in series like "Zwei himmlische Töchter," "Sketchup," and the "Rosa Roth" crime series. Her career has earned comparisons to Isabelle Huppert, and she is praised for her self-assertion, even in everyday life, as Alfred Holighaus, a producer, once noted.
Despite her success, Berben has spoken about her struggles, including suicidal thoughts as a young woman and her realization that "life is the answer." She has also expressed annoyance at being complimented for looking good for her age, emphasizing that she is more than just her physical appearance.
Berben, who enjoys life, writes important letters by hand, loves cooking, and laughs often, is in a long-term relationship with Heiko Kiesow. She values unpredictability in life and believes that people should remain a little unpredictable as well.
