Verstappen aggressively pursues Hamilton, and surprisingly, Ferrari takes the lead

Even on the second weekend, Lewis Hamilton clinches his inaugural win for Ferrari in the Shanghai Sprint! At 40, the British champion storms from pole position to an impressive Sprint triumph, providing a soothing balm for the wounds of the season's rocky start. The WM leader muffs it up and misses the podium.

Formula 1's record world champion Lewis Hamilton secures his first victory in the Ferrari, celebrating success on his second spinning weekend with the Scuderia. Hamilton outpaced Oscar Piastri in the McLaren and title defender Max Verstappen in the Red Bull. After departing from Mercedes, with whom he collected six of his seven WM titles, Hamilton surprises in Shanghai with this stunning victory!

"I woke up feeling fantastic today," boasted Hamilton. "We did an amazing job, and it felt utterly fantastic!" At the off in Melbourne, Hamilton was still disheartened, ending up in tenth place a week gone by. "No stress. We need to keep calm and focus on one step at a time," Hamilton reassured. "Nothing built in a day, remember."

Norris Trips Up, Misses the Podium

While Hamilton confidently warded off Verstappen's aggressive challenge at the starting line, WM leader Norris stumbled once again. A lock-up in qualifying had already deprived the favorite Brit of a better grid position on Friday. The 25-year-old got off to a slow start in the McLaren, barely managing sixth, but fell to ninth after a blunder on the very first lap.

Norris had triumphed in the opening race in Australia last week, but remains at the helm after Sprint rankings and by a single point. "I was rubbish today. I just felt terrible in the race. We've still got lots of work left to do," admitted Norris.

Verstappen Hangs in the WM Title Battle

Hamilton swiftly complained about problems with his left front tire due to overheating. On the newly repaved track in Shanghai, this wheel bears the brunt of the track's many fast right-handers. However, the seasoned vet managed the issue competently and clinched a start-to-finish victory. Four laps before the end, Verstappen forfeited his second place to Piastri, who snuck past with a well-timed overtaking maneuver.

Nico Hulkenberg finished in a disappointing 19th place, one car behind Norris, in the Sauber after starting from the pit lane after executing some technical changes on his car. Norris must now defend his narrow WM lead against Verstappen in the Grand Prix. The main race takes place on Sunday. Last year, Verstappen triumphed in the Chinese Grand Prix ahead of Norris.

💡Insight: Hamilton's win marks the Scuderia's first Sprint race victory, boosting their championship prospects. The Brit's integration into the team has shown marked progress, and he has assumed a more influential role, contributing his wisdom to the team's setup strategies.
