Verizon, Vodafone & T-Mobile Boost Home Gateway Security with prpl

Verizon has announced a significant upgrade to its home depot infrastructure. By the end of next year, the company will equip 10 million home gateways with the prpl open-source software. Meanwhile, Vodafone and T-Mobile are integrating prpl's Life Cycle Management (LCM) into their RDK-B OS for home depot products. The prpl Foundation, dedicated to developing open-source carrier-grade software for service provider CPE devices, has welcomed new members including KPN, TIM, Telenor, and Turk Telecom.

The prpl ecosystem, often compared to Android for the smart home, continues to grow. Orange plans to introduce prpl in Morocco and expand its usage in France. prpl's Life Cycle Management (LCM) is currently running on 12 million AT&T home gateways, demonstrating its widespread adoption. In terms of cybersecurity, there could be up to six prpl-compliant apps available for telcos by the end of this year, providing robust protection for home gateways and connected smart home devices.

Bell Canada's experience in joining the prpl ecosystem took over a year from initial idea to budget allocation, highlighting the thorough process involved in such integrations. Despite no immediate announcements, the prpl Foundation anticipates further growth, with more telecommunications providers expected to join in the future.

Verizon's upgrade and Vodafone and T-Mobile's integration of prpl LCM into their RDK-B OS mark significant milestones for the prpl Foundation. With new members joining and Orange's expansion plans, the prpl ecosystem continues to flourish. By the end of this year, telcos can expect a range of cybersecurity apps to enhance the protection of their home gateway products and smart home devices.
