The image shows a group of people playing a game of basketball in a gymnasium, with a basketball net on the left side and people sitting on chairs in the background. There is a wall behind them and lights at the top of the image, suggesting that the game is taking place in a stadium. The players appear to be in the midst of a competitive match, with one of them, presumably a professional basketball player, ready to take on the challenge of the game.

Hamburger Basketball Players Must Do Without Center - Veolia Towers Hamburg loses Martin Breunig to thigh injury for weeks

Veolia Towers Hamburg will be without center Martin Breunig for weeks after a thigh muscle injury. The 34-year-old veteran suffered the setback during a recent game in Trier. His absence leaves a gap in the team's line-up.

Breunig, born in Leverkusen, has spent over a decade in the Basketball Bundesliga. His career includes stints with Oldenburg and Weißenfels, where injuries have disrupted his seasons before. In March 2022, he broke his tibial head while playing for Oldenburg in Bayreuth. Earlier this year, he underwent finger surgery during his time at Weißenfels.

He joined the Veolia Towers Hamburg in November, likely in 2025, as a mid-season signing. The club quickly recognised his value, extending his contract by two years. Now, another injury forces him off the court for an extended period.

The thigh muscle tear means Breunig will miss several weeks of play. His recovery timeline remains unclear, but the team must adjust without one of its key German players. The injury adds to a history of setbacks for the experienced center.
