Vengeful Vigilante Frank Castle Returns, Bringing Death to Criminals under the Alias of the Punisher

In a highly-anticipated return, Marvel's iconic anti-hero, the Punisher, is set to make a comeback in the world of comics. Titled "Punisher: Red Band," this five-issue miniseries will be penned by Benjamin Percy, renowned for his work on "Wolverine," and featuring the art of Julius Ohta, known for his work on "Iron Man."

The latest instalment finds Frank Castle back in New York, bereft of memories from his past life yet retaining his lethal combat skills. As a result, Castle is expected to continue his bloody vendetta in the familiar city. Like his TV counterpart, this version of Frank Castle is poised to leave a bloody trail, earning the "Red Band" label due to its explicit content—more graphic than typical Marvel fare.

Benjamin Percy expressed his excitement about bringing Frank Castle's story to life, stating, "Frank Castle is one of my all-time favorite characters, and 'Punisher' is a series I've been longing to write for a significant period. I'm going to lean fully into my favorite genre: the gritty, brutal sphere of psychopaths. This will be as violent and raw as it gets. Street-level mayhem awaits you."

Marvel has previously grappled with the depiction of the Punisher due to his association with gun violence, especially in the wake of mass shootings and the use of his symbol by law enforcement. "Daredevil: Born Again" addressed this issue during its initial season by having Frank Castle eliminate other law enforcement officers who used his symbol inappropriately.

Readers will have the opportunity to follow Frank Castle's violent quest for answers when "Punisher: Red Band" debuts on September 10. For more updates on upcoming releases from Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, the DC Universe, and Doctor Who, visit io9.

Based on Ben Percy's excitement, fans can expect an incredibly gritty and violent portrayal of the Punisher in "Punisher: Red Band," as he continues to hunt down his enemies in New York. Gizmodo and io9, known for their coverage of entertainment and technology, will likely cover this new miniseries due to its controversial and graphic content. Prepare for an intense future of web series and movies, as this bloody saga kicks off literary entertainment in a new direction.
