It's high time to welcome the notorious Frank Castle, a.k.a. the Punisher, back to our comic book world!
Marvel's relentless avenger of justice is making a comeback in the gripping five-issue miniseries, "Punisher: Red Band", written by Ben Percy (Wolverine) and illustrated by Julius Ohta (Iron Man). After a long hiatus, readers can reconnect with Frank in New York City, where he finds himself bereft of memories of his past life, yet still prowling the streets, dispensing justice his own way.
In recent years, Frank faced some significant twists: taking charge of the Hand ninja cult, learning his long-lost wife was alive and seeking a divorce, and his brief stint in Weirdworld. This fresh start presents Frank with new challenges and opportunities to shed more blood, much like his TV counterpart. In keeping with this series' edgy tone, a "Red Band" label has been affixed to denote that the content is more explicit than usual.
"Ever since I first laid eyes on Frank Castle, he’s been one of my favorite characters," Percy shared on his Twitter account. "I've been breathlessly waiting to bring my unique spin to this series, and it’s going to be raw, brutal, and intense. This is the grit that grinds you down and the blood that boils your veins."
Over the years, Marvel has struggled with determining Frank's appropriate role within their universe. Some of the uncertainty stemmed from his Netflix series airing in the aftermath of multiple mass shootings, while other instances were due to law enforcement adopting the Punisher symbol as a decoration on their vehicles. In the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again, Frank is seen taking down police officers who had wrongfully adopted his symbol.
Punisher: Red Band will undoubtedly showcase an intriguing new chapter in Frank's life when it debuts on September 10, 2025.
