Velazquez, the renowned thoroughbred, is set to reside at the National Stud starting next year following the acquisition by Sam Sangster Bloodstock.

In a significant move, the highly-regarded colt Diego Velazquez has been purchased by Sam Sangster Bloodstock on behalf of a high-profile syndicate. The son of Frankel, who was trained by Aidan O'Brien, will now race for the remainder of 2025 under the renowned Sangster silks.

Diego Velazquez has already made a name for himself with key victories, including a Group 2 win at the Champions Juvenile Stakes at Leopardstown and a notable fourth place at the Poule d’Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas). He also claimed a near five-length win on his debut at two at the Curragh.

The colt's immediate target is the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville, where he achieved a victorious Group 1 win in August 2025. Following his racing season, Diego Velazquez is set to stand as a stallion at the National Stud in Newmarket starting in 2026.

Sam Sangster praised Diego Velazquez as a rare horse with “depth of form and longevity” representative of his sire Frankel. He underlined the ambition to maximize his potential on the track before transitioning to a stallion career.

Diego Velazquez is a three-parts brother to multiple Group winner and Group 1-placed Point Lonsdale. He was bred by Epona Bloodstock and was sold for 2.4 million guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2022. Prior to his purchase, he was owned by MV Magnier and White Birch Farm.

As the key sales period begins in Deauville, British and Irish vendors are preparing for action. However, no specific information about Diego Velazquez's sale is provided. The colt has shown promising potential, being the 11th and final foal out of the stakes-winning Acclamation mare Sweepstake.

As Diego Velazquez continues his racing journey, he holds further Group 1 entries later this year, with more Group 1 targets planned for the autumn. The racing world eagerly awaits his next moves.
