Varsity Football Outlook: Scott Banking on Established Players and Fresh Talent to Secure Playoff Spot

Scott High School's Eagles are gearing up for the 2024 football season with a mix of returning starters and new faces. The team, coached by Justin Franklin in his second season with the program, is facing some challenges but also has some promising talent.

The offensive unit took a significant hit from graduation, with more than half of the team's passing yards, rushing yardage, and receiving yards departing. Senior Trey Cook will be Scott's full-time quarterback for the 2024 season, and he will be supported by wide receivers Aaron Hampton (senior) and Justin Hardy (junior). Hampton was the team leader in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in 2024. Hunter Bradley and Aaron Hampton are expected to share the rushing load for the Scott football team.

On the defensive side, the team has some key returning players. Hampton, Bradley, Kaiden Bohn, and Braydon Ennis are the top returning tacklers for the Scott defense. Ennis recorded a team-high 39 tackles in 2024, while Hardy was second with 36. Bohn and Ennis combined for 22 solo and 21 assisted tackles in the defensive line. Ennis and Ben Smiddy will be key players on the offensive line, expected to improve offensive output.

The Scott Eagles are in Class 5A, District 6 with Boone County, Conner, Cooper, and Dixie Heights. The non-district schedule includes the season opener on August 22 at Campbell County in the third annual Battle of the Bridge game. Additional early non-district matchups include hosting Bullitt Central on August 29 and playing at Clay County on September 5.

The emphasis for Scott this season is on gaining consistency and building team strength, especially addressing the running back position. The 2025 schedule includes games against Campbell County, Bullitt Central, Clay County, Grant County, Bourbon County, Dixie Heights, Boone County, Cooper, Conner, and Holmes.

In six games last season, Trey Cook threw for 551 yards, six touchdowns, and had 5 interceptions. The 2024 team has lost 18 players, leaving a roster consisting of 12 seniors, 6 juniors, and 30 sophomores.

Coach Franklin is the first head coach the current senior class has had for more than one season. Despite the challenges, the team is optimistic about the upcoming season and is working hard to improve and compete.
