Vanderbilt University's second-ranked team is eager for retribution as they face Georgia State in their match-up.

Vanderbilt University, currently ranked No. 20 by the Associatedated Press and No. 23 in the coaches' poll, is off to a strong start in the current season, marking their first 3-0 start since 2017. The Commodores' impressive form was showcased in their last game, a resounding 31-7 victory over No. 11 South Carolina. Vanderbilt's center, Jordan White, was even named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week in recognition of his outstanding performance.

On the other hand, Georgia State finds itself in a slightly different position. After a disappointing start, the Panthers secured their first victory of the season last week against FCS opponent Murray State (37-21). However, they have faced tougher opposition, having lost to No. 13 Ole Miss (63-7) and undefeated Memphis (38-16).

Their most notable victory this season was against Vanderbilt itself, a 36-32 upset in Atlanta last season. But since then, Vanderbilt has significantly improved, with their defense ranking sixth in the nation with seven takeaways and their offense boasting a high efficiency rating, thanks to quarterback Diego Pavia who completes 73.5% of his passes.

Pavia has thrown for 645 yards and seven touchdowns in the current season, while Georgia State's offense has struggled to establish the run, yet to produce a 100-yard rusher in three games. The Panthers' all-conference receiver, Ted Hurst, has 18 catches for a 15.3-yard average this season and two touchdowns.

Georgia State is using a two-quarterback system, with TJ Finley and Cameran Brown each playing nearly the same number of snaps. Last week, Finley threw for 150 yards and one touchdown, with two interceptions, while Brown threw for 101 yards and three touchdowns.

However, Vanderbilt's defense, which is ranked in the top 20 in rushing yards allowed, total yards allowed, and scoring defense, will present a formidable challenge for the Panthers' offense. Georgia State coach Dell McGee has expressed concerns about penalties, such as false starts, hands to the face, and late hits on the quarterback.

As both teams prepare for their upcoming clash, the focus will be on maintaining momentum and capitalising on their strengths. For Vanderbilt, it's about continuing their impressive form, while for Georgia State, it's about finding a way to overcome their recent struggles against tougher opposition.
