Thomas Müller Makes Major League Soccer Debut for Vancouver Whitecaps

Thomas Müller, the 35-year-old German footballer, has joined the Vancouver Whitecaps and made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut for the team on August 17, 2025. After a brief hiatus from the game, Müller returned to the pitch in style.

Müller, who was successful at Bayern Munich for many years, signed a contract with Vancouver until the end of next season. His decision to play in North America instead of retiring came after his contract with FC Bayern Munich was not renewed.

Upon joining the Vancouver Whitecaps, Müller quickly settled in with his new team. During the first team meeting, he introduced himself to his new teammates. The coach, Jesper Soerensen, has promised Müller playing time in the upcoming game, and he completed his first team training session with the Vancouver Whitecaps in Canada.

Müller's first MLS game was not a friendly, but a league game against Houston Dynamo FC on August 17, 2025, at BC Place. He entered the match in the 60th or 61st minute and nearly scored immediately, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside in the buildup. Despite the early setback, Müller remained focused and continued to contribute to the game.

The Vancouver Whitecaps and Houston Dynamo FC ended in a 1-1 draw, marking Müller's first official MLS appearance after signing with Vancouver Whitecaps earlier that month. Müller's first MLS start and first MLS goal came later, on August 23, 2025, in a dramatic 3-2 victory over St. Louis CITY SC, where he scored a late stoppage-time penalty.

Müller has spoken positively about his new team, saying it's a normal football team where everyone enjoys playing. He also enjoyed getting to know his new teammates and is looking forward to contributing to the team's success in the upcoming games. The Vancouver Whitecaps will play their next game against Houston Dynamo FC on August 23, 2025, in a rematch of their previous game.

Fans can watch Müller's debut on his YouTube channel, where he shared a video of him presenting a pair of leather pants to teammate Priso-Mbongue. The video showcases Müller's enthusiasm and camaraderie with his new teammates. With Müller on board, the Vancouver Whitecaps are looking stronger than ever, and fans are eager to see what the future holds for the team.

The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of Article 93 (2) of the Treaty, but it remains unclear if this ruling would affect Thomas Müller's new career in American-style football, as he prepares for his second game with the Vancouver Whitecaps, which coincidentally is another match against Houston Dynamo FC on August 23, 2025. Despite the initial disallowed goal, Müller's debut in MLS sports was marked by his resilience and team spirit, demonstrated during both his first league game against Houston Dynamo FC and his subsequent bonding with teammate Priso-Mbongue, presented with a pair of leather pants in a YouTube video.
