Vancouver FC aims to outperform Ottawa, securing a cup final encounter with the Whitecaps

Vancouver FC finds itself in an unexpected position, currently sitting at the bottom of the Canadian Premier League (CPL) standings with a record of 2-15-6. The team's last win was on August 4, a 2-1 victory against Halifax, marking the end of an 11-game winless streak in league outings.

Meanwhile, Ottawa boasts the most potent attack in the CPL, scoring an impressive 46 goals this season, averaging two per game. Sam Salter from Ottawa leads the CPL with 17 goals, with four more in cup play.

Vancouver FC, however, will have a chance to turn things around in the return leg of its semifinal series against Atletico Ottawa. The BC-based team currently holds a 3-1 lead in the series, thanks to their recent victories over Pacific FC and Cavalry FC in penalty shootouts.

Atletico Ottawa, currently in second place in the CPL standings, has a different idea and is confident in its ability to overcome the deficit. The team has lost just once in its last 15 games, with a record of 8-1-6, and is unbeaten in its last four outings, with a record of 2-0-2.

Ottawa's Mexican coach, Diego Mejia, believes that his team needs to score goals to win. The team's lone defeat during its recent run was a 2-0 defeat on August 17 at Forge.

Meanwhile, Vancouver FC has struggled offensively this season, scoring 27 goals and conceding a league-worst 52 goals. Martin Nash, the interim coach for Vancouver FC, expressed excitement about the upcoming final.

Elsewhere in the CPL, SixFive Sports & Entertainment has engaged Knightsbridge Capital to manage the sale of Pacific FC. Josh Simpson, Pacific FC president and SixFive co-founder, stated that it's time for a new group to lead the club into its next chapter of growth and success. The new owner of Pacific FC after SixFive Sports & Entertainment has not been specified in the available search results.

The CPL final will feature a CPL team for the second time, following the 2020 pandemic-delayed tournament. The Whitecaps booked their ticket to the final with a 4-0 win over Forge FC.

SixFive Sports & Entertainment plans to retain ownership of Vancouver FC. A win, draw, or even a one-goal loss for Vancouver in the semifinal series will send them to the Oct. 1 final against the defending champion Vancouver Whitecaps.

The stage is set for an exciting CPL final, with both teams eager to claim the title.
