Van Halen's co-founder, David Lee Roth, reemerges on stage amidst ongoing internal turmoil within the iconic rock band.

Rock and Roll legend Diamond Dave, is back on the live scene!

After a five-year hiatus, David Lee Roth graced a stage once more at the M3 music festival in Columbia, MD in 2025. The energy-filled 75-minute set was packed with hits from his iconic band Van Halen. According to Rolling Stone, this dynamic show included guitarist Al Estrada, four backing vocalists, and Roth himself, strutting his stuff.

Kicking off his set with the classic Van Halen track "Panama," his performance progressed through classic hits like "You Really Got Me," "Dance the Night Away," "Runnin' with the Devil," "Jamie's Cryin'," "Hot for Teacher," and many more. The night was wrapped up with the band's chart-topping hit "Jump."

Roth joked on stage that his comeback marked the "end of my first retirement," after announcing in late 2021 that he was stepping back due to unspecified health issues. Fast forward to 2025, Ticketmaster listed more than a dozen upcoming shows by Roth starting on July 22 at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles.

Prior to his 2025 performance, Roth's most recent show was a private 2023 corporate gig for Home Depot. Before that, he opened for Kiss on a tour that ended in March 2020 amid widespread cancellations and postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The singer was scheduled to play a Las Vegas residency in early 2022 but called off the shows before they happened.

As Roth reignited his career, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar has been vocal about his bandmates, particularly following the death of founding guitarist Eddie Van Halen in 2020. Last month, ahead of Hagar's appearance at Indio's Stagecoach festival, Hagar shared stories behind six of his songs with The Times.

Hagar revealed that he and Eddie had discussed a reunion prior to his death and that Eddie specifically asked him not to divulge their plans to Eddie's brother, Van Halen drummer Alex Van Halen. Hagar went on to express his belief that Alex is upset with him because "I'm out doing it ... and he can't." After Stagecoach, Hagar launched a Vegas residency at the Park MGM.

To many music fans' dismay, Van Halen's final concert took place in October 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl, featuring Roth on vocals and Eddie's son Wolfgang Van Halen on bass. It marked the end of an era for the iconic band.
