CDU Rheinisch-Bergisch District Elects New Board

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district has elected a new board, with Uwe Pakendorf taking over as chairman. The election took place on Tuesday during a meeting of the county council fraction.

Uwe Pakendorf, a 40-year-old native of Rösrath, has been active in local politics for many years. He has served as a CDU candidate for the European Parliament and has been involved in debates and discussions with various party groups, such as the Senioren Union and Junge Union. His political focus includes generational justice and climate protection.

Pakendorf has been a member of the county council for 20 years, most recently serving as vice-chairman and chairman of the important future committee. He has also been a member of the CDU since his youth.

The election of Pakendorf did not go exactly as initially planned. Guido Wagner of the Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger has the details. Rainer Deppe, who had long since withdrawn from the county chairmanship and the state parliament, was initially pressured to run for election. However, Deppe only received 14 votes, expressed deep disappointment, and did not accept the election.

Martin Bosbach from Wermelskirich ran against Deppe in the election. Uwe Pakendorf, despite his initial plans, did run for election and received 34 votes, with 8 noes and 2 abstentions.

The new board aims to build broad majorities with other democratic factions and the coalition partner, Alliance 90/The Greens, for the benefit of the citizens and the eight Rhine-Berg communities. The entire CDU faction expressed their thanks to former chairman Johannes Dunnér for his "many years of excellent work."

Helga Löpp from Wermelskirchen has been elected as the treasurer. Elvi Reudenbach from Bergisch Gladbach and Christopher Schiefer from Leichlingen remain as deputies in the new board. Klaus-Dieter Becker, Erika Gewehr, Kurt Molitor, Frank Rausch, and Christiane Schloten are the new deputy members.

Uwe Pakendorf has also been involved in allegations related to possible financial irregularities or vote buying in the lead-up to the MIT internal elections in 2023. The CDU Rheinisch-Bergisch district board has taken these accusations seriously and forwarded the matter for independent investigation to the Cologne public prosecutor's office. Pakendorf has personally denied all allegations of offering or paying money to people he recruited for MIT, and those he recruited reportedly confirm his statements. The CDU board continues to verify the information, emphasizing a commitment to transparency and integrity while rejecting any unlawful behavior especially for officeholders.

County Commissioner Stephan Santelmann (CDU) announced that he will not run again in the 2025 election. Uli Heimann, as the deputy county commissioner, automatically joins the board.

The new board wants to continue working with the coalition partner, Alliance 90/The Greens. They aim to find common ground and work towards the best interests of the citizens in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district.

  • In the aftermath of Uwe Pakendorf's election as chairman of the CDU Rheinisch-Bergisch district board, the new board is looking to establish broad majorities with other democratic factions and the coalition partner, Alliance 90/The Greens, with a focus on policy-and-legislation that benefits the citizens and the eight Rhine-Berg communities.
  • The upcoming politics in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district, including general-news and legislative matters, will be influenced by the actions of Uwe Pakendorf and his newly elected board, along with their coalition partner, as they aim to tackle issues such as generational justice and climate protection.
