Uttar Pradesh braces for extreme heatwave as IMD issues Orange Alert
Uttar Pradesh is bracing for a severe heatwave, with temperatures set to climb by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert, warning of extreme conditions across several districts on May 19, 20, and 21. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. He advised those venturing outside to drink plenty of water, wear loose cotton clothing, and protect their heads from direct sunlight.
The administration has been placed on high alert. District Magistrates, the Health Department, the Power Department, and relief agencies have received strict instructions to monitor the situation closely. Special attention is being given to sensitive districts, where surveillance has been increased.
Hospitals across the state are preparing for a potential surge in heatstroke cases. Medical facilities have been ordered to stock essential medicines, keep beds available, and ensure doctors and ambulance services remain fully operational. Government hospitals have already made arrangements to treat affected patients promptly. The state government’s measures aim to reduce heat-related risks and provide swift medical aid if needed. With temperatures rising sharply, authorities are emphasising caution and readiness to handle emergencies over the next three days.
