Utilizing Blood Purifiers in Dune: Awakening - A Guideline
Slogging through the sweltering sands of Arrakis in Dune: Awakening can leave you parched, especially since it's a barren desert with little to no sources of hydration. To circumvent this issue, the game offers an unorthodox solution: Blood Purifiers. Yes, it's gross, but it's crucial for survival.
Despite the Blood Purifier being a significant part of your early objectives, the game fails to provide a proper tutorial on how to use it, making things even more challenging. To help you from dehydrating into a dried-up mess too close to survival, here's a guide on how to use one of Dune: Awakening's most effective water-producing tools.
Using a Blood Purifier in Dune: Awakening
During the Water From Blood main quest early on, you're tasked with researching schematics for the basic exsanguination kit and blood purifier. To actually convert enemy blood into potable water, follow these steps:
- Crafting the Blood Extractor and Blood Sacks:
- Improvised Blood Extraction Kit: It takes Medium Salvaged Metal x10 and Technical Knowledge x1 to craft the basic Blood Extractor[1].
- Blood Sack: You can carry multiple Small Blood Sacks, and each bag holds blood extracted from three enemy bodies.
- Construct and Position the Blood Purifier:
- Locate a Sub-Fief Console in your base and have Salvaged Metal x70 to craft the Blood Purifier[2].
- Use the Construction Tool to build it near the Sub-Fief Console.
- Harvest Enemy Blood:
- With the Blood Extractor in hand, extract blood from defeated enemies. Look for a suitably drained corpse, and each Small Blood Sack can hold three bodies' worth.
- Feed the Blood Purifier:
- Place the filled Small Blood Sacks into the Blood Purifier.
- The machine will slowly process this blood into water.
- Extracting and Using the Purified Water:
- You can consume the purified water directly by holding E when looking at the Blood Purifier.
- Alternatively, if you have a Literjon or similar container, click "deposit water" when interacting with it to store the water for later use while exploring.
You'll initially be limited to the basic exsanguination kit, but you'll acquire better tools later on that will speed up this process. Don't forget that you can carry multiple Small Blood Sacks and place more than one Purifier in your base, allowing you to make the process more efficient if you have the resources.
Since processing blood into water takes some time, and machines have limited storage capacity, it's wise to fill up the Blood Purifier with blood before and after each expedition you embark on, ensuring a water supply during your journey.
