Utah authorities intend to pursue capital punishment against the suspected assassin of Charlie Kirk

In a shocking turn of events, a 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson has been charged with the murder of Charlie Kirk, the CEO and co-founder of Turning Point USA. The incident occurred at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.

Robinson's roommate found a note saying, "I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I'm going to take it." Alongside this, a text message from Robinson was discovered that read, "Do not use any prior context." Robinson later admitted to his roommate that he was the one who shot Kirk.

The murder is currently under investigation, with Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray stating that Robinson's DNA was found on the trigger of the gun used to kill Kirk. However, due to potential lack of a serial number, the rifle, if found, might not trace back to Robinson.

Gray emphasized that the charges against Robinson are allegations only. Robinson's reason for shooting Kirk was due to his perceived hatred. Robinson also expressed concern about leaving evidence and his prints at the crime scene, mentioning that he left the rifle wrapped in a towel at a location where he changed outfits.

Robinson's father, a former police officer from the Washington County Sheriff's Department, recognized his son in police photos and convinced him to surrender after Tyler admitted to killing Kirk. Robinson mentioned that he regretted not retrieving the rifle immediately after the shooting and is worried about explaining the loss of the rifle to his family, specifically his father.

Utah prosecutors have announced their plan to seek the death penalty, a decision that has been vocally supported by President Donald Trump and Utah Gov. Spencer Cox.

Robinson is scheduled to make his first court appearance in Fourth District Court in Provo virtually, from the Utah County Jail in Spanish Fork. A PDF file containing more information about the case can be viewed by clicking on the provided link.

It is important to note that this is an ongoing investigation, and more details may be released as the case progresses. The bullet that struck Kirk in the neck passed closely to several other individuals, including the questioner, and children were visible near Kirk's stage.

Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Charlie Kirk during this difficult time.
