"Usman identifies Abure as the ex-chairman of the Labour Party at a national level"

The drumbeat of discord within Nigeria's Labour Party (LP) has reached a fever pitch, with the Chairperson of the Caretaker Committee, Nenadi Usman, taking a swipe at Julius Abure, who continues to stake his claim on the party's leadership. This heated exchange follows the Supreme Court's recent judgment, leaving both factions in a spin, waiting for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to weigh in.

While Abure persists in asserting that INEC has recognized him as the LP's national chairman, the electoral body has unequivocally distanced itself from such statements. INEC has clarified that it has yet to reinstate Abure as the party's legitimate head.

In his ongoing bid for power, Abure has faced formidable opposition within the party. His claims of recognition by INEC have been met with firm rejections from the electoral body.

On Friday, Nenadi Usman, in a scathing statement, labeled Abure's actions as "desperate" and "illegitimate." She denounced his attempts to claim leadership as nothing short of a "gross insult" to the intelligence of Nigerians.

"Mr. Julius Abure is the former National Chairman of the Labour Party. His time and authority have expired, and no amount of manipulation, media propaganda, or illicit press briefings can resuscitate a dead mandate,” Usman asserted.

Usman also accused Abure and his supporters of propagating misinformation and attempting to hijack the party for personal gain. She insisted that the LP is more than just a business venture; it stands on bedrock democratic principles and values.

"It is ludicrous and offensive that Mr. Abure and his cronies continue to masquerade as leaders without legal standing, moral credibility, or institutional support. The Labour Party belongs to the people, not just a clique,” she affirmed.

Usman made it crystal clear that the Labour Party values integrity, transparency, and the rule of law above all else. She vowed that the party would not tolerate any form of power grab or underhanded tactics to seize control.
