US State Department Alerts on Indian Female Shoplifter: Risk of Visa Termination Looming

The United States embassy has issued a new advisory, urging visa holders to abstain from committing assault, burglary, or theft while in the country. This advisory comes amid a sequence of incidents involving foreign visitors breaking U.S. laws and a series of restrictions enforced on US visa applications.

The latest travel restrictions, enacted by President Donald J. Trump in a presidential proclamation on June 4, 2025, aim to advance U.S. national security by improving international cooperation on screening and vetting practices. The restrictions apply to 19 countries, with full bans on 12 countries and partial bans on seven countries, affecting various visa categories.

In a separate incident, an Indian woman was recently caught stealing items worth $1,300 at a Target store during her vacation in the U.S. The woman was detained in Illinois and the viral video of the incident surfaced on social media. It is not clear if this incident has any direct link to the recent visa restrictions, as the focus remains on enhancing national security and public safety.

The U.S. embassy values law and order and expects foreign visitors to follow all U.S. laws. Committing assault, theft, or burglary in the United States could lead to a visa being revoked and make an individual ineligible for future U.S. visas.

In addition to the advisory, the U.S. federal government has called for strict social media inspection for all US visa applicants. From now on, the embassy has cancelled all visa interviews and will be exchanging them with a scanning of an applicant's social media accounts instead.

Last month, a warning was issued by the embassy concerning illegal entry into the U.S. after an Indian student was detained at an airport and deported. The US embassy has not issued any new statement about the Indian student arrested for trying to scam an elderly woman.

The U.S. embassy's latest advisory is a response to a sequence of incidents involving foreign visitors breaking U.S. laws. The embassy issued a new advisory for US visa applicants, stating that the United States values law and order and expects foreign visitors to follow all U.S. laws. The advisory serves as a reminder for all visa holders to respect the U.S. legal system and uphold the values of honesty and integrity while in the country.

  1. Despite the increased social media screening for US visa applicants, it's crucial for visitors to remember that committing a crime like assault, theft, or burglary can lead to revocation of their visas and future ineligibility.
  2. The ongoing sequence of foreign visitors breaking U.S. laws has resulted in a focus on not only improving international cooperation on screening and vetting practices but also reinforcing the importance of law and order through advisories.
  3. The recent incidents of law-breaking by foreign visitors in the U.S., such as the Indian woman caught shoplifting or the Indian student detained for illegal entry, underscore the need for general-news coverage and interviews addressing the current issue of crime and justice affecting international visitors.
