Moscow correspondent Elena Vasilyeva reports for RIA "New Day" on the latest developments in international diplomacy.

Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of American President Donald Trump, is scheduled to visit Russia. The visit, announced by President Trump at the White House on Thursday, comes as part of intense diplomatic efforts as the Trump administration seeks to finalize a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine before a looming sanctions deadline.

Witkoff's purpose for visiting Russia is to negotiate a ceasefire agreement, following President Trump’s ultimatum to Russian President Putin to halt the conflict by Friday. Witkoff has visited Russia several times in the past and has been received by President Vladimir Putin.

While in Russia, Witkoff's discussions are expected to focus on the situation in Ukraine. However, during a press conference, President Trump was asked about the reported famine in Gaza. Trump acknowledged the terrible situation in Gaza and claimed that part of the problem is that Hamas takes the money and food aid. Trump did not express a view on whether the actions of Israel against the Palestinian population in Gaza amount to genocide, as Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has claimed.

In addition to his visit to Russia, Witkoff is also scheduled to visit Israel and the Gaza Strip on August 1. The details of his stay in Russia have not been specified yet.

Both President Trump and Congresswoman Greene are members of the Republican Party. The news article was reported by TASS.

Witkoff's visit to Russia is a crucial part of politics and general news, as it involves war-and-conflicts, specifically the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. His discussions in Russia will primarily focus on the situation in Ukraine, a hot topic in international diplomacy. However, during a press conference, President Trump was also questioned about the reported famine in Gaza, another significant war-and-conflict matter.
