US Peace Proposal Receives Support from Hamas
The United States has proposed a peace plan for Gaza, centering on a ceasefire, the release of Israeli hostages, and immediate negotiations. According to reports, Hamas has given a positive response to the U.S.-backed proposal, although it has not formally accepted the deal.
The plan, which is currently at the negotiation stage, aims to implement a 60-day ceasefire and includes confidence-building measures such as hostage release. Key conditions for Hamas include a guarantee that Israel's ground operation in Gaza will not resume after the 60-day ceasefire ends, and unrestricted access to Gaza for food and medical aid.
The U.S. proposals reportedly include the delivery of sufficient aid to the Palestinian enclave with the help of the United Nations and the Red Cross. Israel is expected to release some Palestinian prisoners and hand over the bodies of 18 deceased, while it is anticipated that 10 live Israeli hostages will be gradually released under the peace plan.
The plan also involves a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from certain parts of Gaza, contingent on progress in final-status negotiations. Currently, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) control more than 65% of the Gaza Strip, with ongoing military operations aimed at controlling 75% of the territory. Since the conflict began in 2023, casualties have been severe, with over 57,000 Palestinian deaths and more than 135,000 injuries.
Hamas's serious readiness to immediately enter a new round of negotiations has been expressed. However, the group has not yet confirmed whether it has accepted Washington's proposals regarding the ceasefire. U.S. President Donald Trump is awaiting a response from Hamas within the day.
During the 60-day ceasefire, both sides are expected to work towards a final end to the conflict, which has been ongoing for 20 months. The U.S. is involved in the ceasefire proposal in Gaza, with the UN and Red Cross reportedly set to play a role in delivering aid to the region.
