Tensions between the United States and Venezuela have reached new heights in recent weeks, with the US government taking aggressive action against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and the notorious gang Tren de Aragua (TDA).

In a move that has raised eyebrows, the US government has designated Tren de Aragua as a foreign terrorist organization. However, President Donald Trump has not specifically mentioned the gang in his recent statements. This action comes amidst allegations that the TDA is involved in drug trafficking, a claim Maduro vehemently denies.

The US military has taken direct action against alleged drug-laden vessels in the Caribbean. In early September, a US military strike on such a ship resulted in the deaths of 11 people, three of whom were from Venezuela. The US justice system accuses Maduro of involvement in international drug trafficking, a charge he vehemently denies.

Maduro has accused the US government of targeting Venezuela's natural resources and has described the US military presence in the Caribbean as "the greatest threat" in a century. In response to the US actions, Maduro has threatened armed resistance in case of a US attack.

Trump has been vocal about the threat posed by drug cartels, emphasizing that they pose a threat to national security, foreign policy, and vital interests of the US. He issued a warning: "BE WARNED - If you transport drugs that can kill Americans, we will hunt you down!"

The US has reportedly intercepted drug smugglers as part of its operations off the Venezuelan Caribbean coast. The US has also deployed several warships off the Venezuelan coast, a move that Maduro has criticized.

During his presidential campaign, Trump spoke about Tren de Aragua, claiming it controlled entire apartment complexes in Colorado. However, local politicians have denied this claim.

The US government has doubled the reward for information leading to the arrest of Maduro to up to $50 million (approximately €43 million). Maduro has responded by threatening armed resistance in case of a US attack.

This is the second such attack in two weeks by the US. The US government has not provided a clear legal basis for these actions, leading to questions about the legitimacy of these military interventions.

As tensions continue to escalate, both countries find themselves at a crossroads, with the potential for further conflict looming large. The situation remains fluid and uncertain, with both sides digging in their heels and refusing to back down.
