In a monumental decision, American actors, represented by SAG-AFTRA, have voted with an impressive majority to approve a fresh contract with film production companies, marking the end of a lengthy industry-wide strike.
The agreement, which garnered the support of 78% of the participating union members, is scheduled to remain in effect until June 2026. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher described the moment as a "golden age" for the union, celebrating its unparalleled strength.
The strike, which began in May 2023, was driven by demands for improved remuneration, enhanced insurance coverage, and superior working conditions from the Association of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and major streaming services. This marked an unprecedented occurrence in Hollywood history, as both writers and actors' guilds simultaneously participated in strikes demanding better pay and working conditions.
